Questions tagged [screen-capture]

An image or video taken by a computer to record the visible items displayed on the monitor, television, or another visual output device. Usually, screen capture is a software process where the image is captured as it is intended to be drawn but can also include traditional recording using a camera or other device to record a display physically and not mathematically.

Screen captures are image or video recordings of a screen (e.g. computer monitor). These are commonly used for one of several purposes:

  • Providing a visual aid, such as in many answers on Ask Different,
  • Recording a "screencast", a podcast-type video generally showing recommended software or tutorials, or
  • Recording an image on the screen for posterity (such as a notable number of page views, for instance).

The tag is generally used for questions about creating these images or videos or recommending/troubleshooting software to create them with.
