Questions tagged [android-x86]

The Android x86 project is a native port of Android for the x86 processor architecture (e.g. 32-bit PC processors). For questions about x86 in general, please use [x86-processors] instead.

The Android x86 project is a native port of Android for the x86 processor architecture (e.g. 32-bit PC processors). The project's home page can be found at http://www.android-x86.org/

Android-x86 isn't a single installable image you can run on every PC: just like any other Android ROM, it depends on having drivers for all the hardware components found in your PC. For this reason, you should check the compatibility list before you start, to see if your hardware is supported.

Like Cyanogenmod and other third-party Android porting projects, the Android-x86 project is run by volunteers (though most of the early work to support x86 was done by Intel engineers), so if it doesn't work on your hardware, that might simply be because none of the porters have the same hardware as you. To help get your hardware supported sooner, you should ask them how you can help (you can get in touch via the project's home page). For example, it might help to send them the hardware you want supported, or even simply helping out with some administrative tasks (like answering questions on the mailing list, or updating documentation) to free up their time.
