Do all sewing machines have the same needles (mounting wise)?
My mom has a Silvercrest 33B1 sewing machine and I am looking for an appropriate set of needles.
She mostly sews curtains, tableclothes and chair covers. These I assume use thin fabrics, either synthetic or cotton ones (I am not doing the sewing, so…

What is that dial on top of my sewing machine? What purpose does it serve?
I have a Brother CS6000i sewing machine. I noticed that on the top of the machine, there is a dial that goes in slow increments, between 1 and 5.

While sewing along a nice straight line the thread bunches, I look at the thread path and it is out from between the tension disks or not on the spring or the bobbin thread is out from under the tension. I do not understand what "machine gremlin" is…

What is this stitch option on my Euro Pro Deluxe Denim & Silk
Curious about this odd "offset" stitch on my sewing machine, does it have a name? When would it be used?
It's under the "stretch" heading, so I gather it would be used on stretchy fabrics, but I haven't been able to find any info about it in the…

Raising the bobbin thread doesn't work
I am just learning my Singer Inspiration 4210 sewing machine.
I've had some good luck with it so far, got some basic stitching done.

Can you sew over the edge of the fabric with a zigzag stitch using a sewing machine?
One teacher told me it doesn't matter at all as long as half the stitch is on the fabric - the machine will accommodate and tighten. Another woman told me she always keeps the full stitch on the fabric for it to work correctly.

Is reverse stitching on a sewing machine always slower than forwards?
I've got a Bernina Activa 145, which I mainly use for bike luggage and outdoor gear. That means a fair bit of bar tacking webbing straps etc. If I keep exactly the same pressure on the pedal, and press the reverse stitch button, the machine runs…
