This typically involves capturing an image of a paper document, and may or may not include converting the image into an editable format (such as a PDF or DOC file).
Not to be confused with media-scanner, which is for questions related to the Android media scanner process that maintains a list of available multimedia files (music, video, pictures, etc) on a device.
